Africa was once called the ‘dark continent,’ but this tag has been shed off as Africa rises to be the pace setter in some of the cutting edge technologies in the world. Mobile penetration has made internet access very high, and thus driven demand for local Data Centers to provide content locally.
There are over 50 Multi Tenant Data Centers spread out in 12 African countries. These countries are:
|Country||Number of Data Centers|
Most of the Data Centers are owned by Telcos and private companies. These Multi tenant Data Centers have promoted growth of numerous cloud services providers in Africa, and migration of Data from overseas to the local Data Centers has made service delivery faster.
Existence of a robust, super fast under sea optical fiber cables that stretch over the whole African coastline has also made it faster to access the data from Africa, and to link with other continents. With a growing appetite for data and increasing smartphone penetration, Africa is going to need even more Data Centers.
